Russell) yesterday regardinp- the ' audit of the accounts of various" ridincsi ' ! Mr. A. D. M'Leod, chairman of the County Council, said that if the exist- . in#» contentions _ of tlie Audit Department, that entirely separate, accounts should be kept of expenditure in the various ridings, the ultimate result ] would bo the splitting; up of tho coun- 1 ties. This, lie-knew, was foreign to- 5 the ideals of t'ho Minister, who rather favoured the .enlargement, of county ! areas. ! ' Mr. 'A'. Mathews said that road ; boards and county councils had always ■ been unanimous in their desire to coil- i tribute from financially strong ridings ] to the assistance of the weaker ones. I If this arrangement was rendered im- ] possiblo thero would be widespread in- 1 convenience and complications. ] Tho Minister, in reply, said that ho favoured the contention of tli© deputation, and provision would bo made for the carrying into effect of tho wishes of tho deputation.
