MOTOR SMASHES.

TWO MISHAPS IN THE CITY. CAB & MOTOR-CYCLE, A serious accident occurred in Jervois Quay, near Taranaki Street, on Thursday evening about 8 o'clock, when a motor-bicycle, ridden by Andrew Clouston, a wharf labourer, collided with a hansom cab. Mrs. Clouston and their five-year-old son wero in a side-car attached to the motor-bicycle. Clouston's injuries included a broken iiosr and cuts about the face. He was taken to Dr. Mackin's surgery and later sent to the hospital. Mrs. Clouston received a severe shaking, but the little boy was not hurt. Tho motor-bicycle got right under the front of the cab, and considerable difficulty was experienced in extricating it. Tho bicyclo was badly damaged, but the cab only very slightly. The cab belongs to A. M'Williams, of Cambridge Terrace, ami it was driven by Walter Dolman.

The driver has stated to tlio police that lio was driving two passengers along the left side of Jervois Quay, going towards Te Aro Railway Station, and when ho noticed tlio motor-bicyclo approaching it was coming right oil to him, so he pulled more to the left to get out of tlio way. "The motor-bicyclo then seemed to swerve right round to the left," lie added, "as if making to cross the railway line, when it crashed into the side of mv cab. the motor-bicyclo and side-car being forced right under the front of the cab." lire. Clouston • stated that silo and her husband and child had been to Oriental Bay for a ride, and wero returning to town via Wakefield Street and. Jervois Quay. She saw a cab approaching on the left side of the road, and when Hearing them the cab-driver seemed to turn the horse a little, and her husband then turned tho bicycle to cross on" to the other side of tho road. The next thing she knew was that, they had crashed into 'tho cab, under which she and her little boy were thrown. Tho motor bicycle was on tho left sido of Jervois Quay going towards town when approaching the cab, and was not travelling very fast. Tho passengers, in tho hansom were Charles Green and Havward Smith, both of whom come from llavwards Station, in tho Hutt Valley. Both stated that tho bicyclo seamed to swerve wheni nearins tho cab, and the next thing* was a crash. They'lidded 'ii?t : 'T:n bicycle did! not seem to be travelling at an excessive speed.

MOTOR-CAR & MOTOR BICYCLE. I CUBA STREET CRASH. At about i o'clock yesterday afternoon a motor-car and a motor- bicyclo collided in. Tho car was driven, by Willia.ni Joseph Kerdiaw, a traveller,' and with him wero two ladies. Lauglilan and. the Lady with him wero thrown off tho bicycle on to tho roadway.
