CHAMPIONSHIP REGATTA.
To-day is tho day on which the Now Zealand championship rowing races aro to bo held. Wellington. Harbour is tho "battle ground," and this fact has been responsible for attracting largo "fields." The number of entries for each event aro as follows Champion Fours, G; Champion Sculls, 9; Champion Pairs, 4; Champion Double Sculls, G; Maiden Fours, 11; Senior Fours, G; Youths' Fours, 9; Junior Fours, 7; Junior Fours (clinker), 9; Maiden Pairs, 7; Maiden Double Sculls, 6. Owing to the prevailing northerlies, Star and Wellington Sonior crews havo been putting the finishing touches to their training work in Petone, where tho water is much calmer. Included amongst tho visitors are the formidable Wauganui Union crew, but it is anticipated that the local crew? will give the strangers a good go for the big Titcc. Two nmmpioii*,. namely, Sloim (Auckland) and A. Sliarpo (Union), are to moot in the Single Sculla event,
