THE. LIONESS AND HER CUBS.

Thb great popularity of Wellington Zoo as a pleasure resort was shown in an unmistakable manner yesterday by tho thousands of people. younß and old, who spent em enjoyable time hi watching the animals and their ways. Tho principal centre of attraction was, of course, tho den of lions, ovDryono beinff anxious for a cliinpso of tho two cubs. They made at least ono appearance during * tho afternoon, and, one of them, probably' little Eichari, entertained a full "house by Bomethinß in the nature of an acrobatio performa-nce, while his mother looked on, proudly, bill) somewhat anxiously. Both of tho cubs, who seemed alt times as mnch interested in the spectators as ttho were in tihom, came in for much favourable comment from those wlio had the good fortune to get a good look at ithom. Councillor Frost, chairman of tho Reserves Committee, has forwarded us a statement of the position of tho lioness fund. Tho contributions wore as follow:—
