MOUNT COOK HERMITAGE.
THE NEW BUILDING.The .£6OO which Cabinet authorised for the Mount Cook Hermitage building is to provide for the laying of the foundations. This work will bo proceeded with at once, so/that as much as possible may be done before the winter sets in. Tho now building is to be constructed of concrete, which will be made into blocks. When, about two years ago, plans wero drawn up for the building the intention was to erect in stone, quarried from the hills in the locality. Tenders were invited, and then the Government decided not to go on with tho work.. It is understood that concrete will be cheaper than tho stone, and that its use will give greater expedition. in tho erection of the .building. The present plansi which it is understood are not yet completed, are a' considerable modification of those originally drawn up. There will be between 40 and 50 bedrooms.
