HARBOUR BOARD CHAIRMAN.
QUESTION OF SALAET. . Embodied in the Harbours Amendment Act, 1910, there is a provision empowering a Harbour Board to pay its chairman an annual allowance-not exceeding £200. At the meeting !of the Wellington Board last evening Mr. Wilford asked ■' the. chairman if ho had obtained a solicitor's opinion as to whether, under' the provision of the new Act stated above it would be possible for the board to, at the present time, authorise an amount being paid to its chairman for the past years work. It had been suggested, Mr. Wilford remarked, that no resolution in connection with the salary of the cbairmaii could, be moved until after the next election. ' ■ ' . Mr. Fletcher said he had not obtained a solicitor's opinion, but understood that any board had power to : move in tho direction stated as from January 1 last Mr. Wilford suggested that the chairman should obtain a solicitor's opinion as to whether'a notice of motion would lie in order for a vote for the past year. The chairman agreed to take the action suggested. * . .'
