In the cricket contest for tho Guthrie Shield, under tha auspices of the Feilding and District Association, the Feilding Club's A team is leading, with 10 points, Cheltenham and Park A and b teams being next with 8 points each. There are nine teams in the competition. At the lvimbolton Methodist Circuit's quarterly meeting, held at Mr. F. S. Uiiy's residence, at Aniti, an increased membership was reported. Tho balancesheet showed healthy finances, and the Sunday School report was encouraging. A Chnstirn Endeavour Society is projected at Apiti. It was decided to hold liarvest thanksgiving services at tho preaching places in tho circuit. The circuit and sveiety stewards were thanked for the year's services, and were re-elected for another term. The report added that an increase in tho number of lay preachers is an urgent need. Mr. Peter Bowling gave two addresses ill Feilding on Saturday night and one on Sunday. Ho was not rushed by crowds, but he got a resolution of sympathy. James M'Lean was charged at the court yesterday, before Messrs. E. Goodbehcre and W. G. Haybittle, J.P.'s, with having uttered two valueless cheques to tho valuo of .£2 each in Feildiug on December 31. Sergeant Bowderi stated that the accused had evidently not intended putting tho country to any unnecessary expense, as ho had intimated to the police that lie intended lo plead guilty. M'Lean asked tho Court' not to "make' too much of it," as he bad been drinking heavily, and had had a lot of family trouble. Tho Bench committed the accused to the Supreme Court at Palmerston for sentence, M'lean intimatea that lie would, not'ask for bail. He was further charged with intent to defraud'by obtaining tho .sum of_.£l 12s. Gd. from Joseph l'arsons, of Feilding. Ho pleaded guilty.to Ibis charge also, and was committed tor sentence.
