(From Our Special Correspondent)• ASSOCIATION FOOTBALL. ; The annual, report to be presented at to-night's, meeting of the Petone Association Football Club states that' although the club was not successful last season; iri-'winning' the' different' championshipsi their performances, were very creditable. ' The want of' a suitable building'' for /'training:'purposes has, Been a-great' handicap to' the''club, and . an endeavour is to he made this season to procure a gymnasium. An encouraging sign in the progress of the game is the number of boys who .-purpose entering, a team iri the' lower grade, competition; The acquisition of a"playing area on 'the' Recreation" Ground will be-a great- asset to the club., . The finances are .in. . a fairly .good condition, .arid the'..thanks., of members are due to several local gentlemen for donations.to the funds.

; RETURN OF THE. BAND. The Hutt and Petone Citizen's Band returned , from Wanganui on, Saturday night, and were met at the, station by tho Mayor' of Petone (Mr; J. W. M'Ewan) and' several prominent citizens, Mr. M'Ewan .congratulated the baqdsmen -on. the measure of success which they had "attained'in; the contest, pointing out ■ that , although they, had been beaten for first place, they had brought home a second and third prize,' which, meant £60 in prize money, besides, medals. He further congratulated Bandsman Walling on obtaining first prize in the ,trombone solo competition. HERETAUNGA BOATING CLUB. - Sis boats started from Petone Wharf at 3 p.m. last. Saturday,; the. race being under the auspices of the Heretauhga Boating Club. The event proved very interesting out to, Soames Island, there being little to choose between the boats. In the run from the island Mr. Hartley's Spray .assumed the lead,, being about '250 yards ahead of the Runa, ; which was followed closely by the Clara,' Bronzewing, Madge, ancl Moana.' When hearing- home the fleet ran into some heavy weather, the big spr.eads which were ,put on at. the start then proving a considerable handicap to the boats. Runa crossed- the finishingline; first, followed; by; Spray 4min.'2sec. after.. The'- Clara ran mto third'place, 27s.ec; after, the Spray.:; Next in order' cairie.-Bronzewing,, Moana, ..and Madge. ANNIVERSARY; .SERVICES.

The Petone United Methodist Sunday School anniversary- services were ■ successfully continued yesterday, when the Rev. W. J: .Williams, .of Trinity Church, preached morning and afternoon, and the Rev. A. J. Seamer ■at night. The singing of the children was excellent, and reflected great credit upon the conductor, Mr. Ackroyd. The evening. attendance. was , particularly • good. The annual "social" .will, be held: on Wednesday evening next, when a large gathering is expected. . ...
