Dr. Anschntz-Kemp, a well-known German inventor, his resolved to 'attempt to reach the North Pole by .means of a submarine vessel' which will float beneath the ioe in the Arctic Ocean. A 6peoial type of submarino is to be constructed for this purpose, owing to the necessity of remaining at a great • depth beneath the surface for a considerable. period of time while travelling • northwards. The inventor has also designed' an apparatus by whioh he hopes to be 'able to take his bearings during his submarine passage. This apparatus has been patented in all countries. Dr. von Payer, a leading German expert oa Arctic exploration, says: "The best way to, the North Pole is neither on the water nor in the air, but by means of a submarine under the ice.
