FORTNIGHTLY MEETINC. Tho fortnightly meeting of tho City Coun-; cil last night was attended by tho Mayor (Hon. T. W. Hislop), and all the'councillors. The Baths and City Reserves 'Committee' recommended that tenders bo called for tho, supply of two horso lawn-mowers and a water-ballast roller for use on tho reserves; that tho hours observed at both baths on! Sundays and holidays be not extended; that; tho various reserves in tho city bo closed; for athletics at 9 o'clock p.m.; that the* request of tho Polhill Football Club for the 1 •lease of a section of Town Belt for 'the 1 erection of a gynmasiilm bo considered witln all the other applications. Tho corinnitteoi ■ reported that they had received a report, from the 'City Engineer on tho various re-' creation grounds and sports grounds on the Town Bolt, tho total area of same being. 85 acres 3 roods 6 poles, and that they woroi having a tracing of tho plan prepared, on i which tho grounds would be marked. Tlio' report will bo submitted to the next council meeting, with 'recommendations. Referring to a complaint that littlo attention had been paid.iu. Mβ year's to treeplanting on reserves, Councillor Luke stated that, during tho 'past two years, 30 acfes of die reserves had been planted. tJpon tho suggestion of Councillor Fisher, it was decided that tho various reserves be not closed until 10 o'clock in "tho evenings. The report, as amended, wns adopted. Tho By-Laws and Street-Lighting Committee- recommended that the application of Messrs Izard and "Westou 'for ; tho consent of the council to -two right-of-ways off Lambton Quay over Section 486, bo granted, subject to tho conditions imposed by the City Engineer. The recommendation was.agreed to, The Financo and Property. Committee recommended that no action be taken with respect to the purchase of tho land at Day's Bay offered by the Wellington Steam Ferry Company, as the Eastburne Borough Council had declined to co-operato in tho matter; that ah oxtra inspector bo obtained for the plumbing inspection department; that tho resignation of Mr. Pasldy, as assistant-inspector in the Sanitary Department, be accepted; and that a compassionate allowance of £25 bo granted to Mr. 0.
