WANAKA NOTES

(Before Warden H. J. Dixon). Mr W. A. Bodkin, M.P., paid » visit to Pembroke on Thursday last. The Wanaka Progress League interviewed Mr Bodkin on several matters concerning the district, and a deputation from the Wanaka District Doctor’s Club (Inc.) interviewed him regarding the Lake County Council’s application for a loan for a Doctor’s residence for Pembroke. Mr Bodkin said he would endeavour to have these matters expedited; Later, Mr Bodkin addressed a, public meeting on the political situation in the Dominion to-day, with particular reference to the farming community. There was a good attendance of electors wind at the conclusion of his address Mr Bodkin was accorded hearty vote of thanks. The Postmaster, Pembroke, advises that the second-class mail for Dunedin which closes on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays, at 8.45 a.m., will in future close on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays at 8.45 p.m., arriving in Dunedin the following nights at 4.54

Constable T. Mannix, who has been in charge of the Pembroke Police Station for the past six years, has received notice of his transfer to the St. Clair Station. No word has vet been received of Constable Mannix's successor or of the date of his departure.
