Mr Thos. Blackie, manager for the I Austral N. Z. Mining Ltd., lelt on Friday for Dunedin where ho expects to be for the next week. Nurse Fade, of the staff of the Cromwell Hospital, left on Friday morning for Dannevirke, where she will take up a nursing appointment. Miss A. Jones left Cromwell on Monday last for Dunedin where she will spend a few week’s holiday. Mr J. D. R. Dyer, of tho Silverstream Dairy Company, Mosgiel, was iu Cromwell and the surrounding district last week on business in connection with his firm.

Sister Nelson, of the Cromwell Hospital, is at present on annual holidays and is visiting relatives iu Hastings.

Mrs Bennetts, Bannockburn, is spending tho school vacation with relatives in Roxburgh.

At the monthly meeting of the Otago Education Board, held in Dunedin on Wednesday last, Mr William S. Marshall was appointed sole teacher, Maungawera. Mr J. R. Benson went to Dunedin on Friday last and will i-eturn to . Cromwell on Wednesday at midday. Mr W. Manson, Pembroke, who was in Dunedin on a short business visit, last week, returned on Saturday. Mr and Mrs S. Terry, Oamaru, are ( at present spending a holiday in Cromwell and are the guests of Mr and Mrs A. B. Pearson. The coming of age of Miss Joan Robertson, Bannockburn, was celebrated at the residence of her parents,. Mr and Mrs R. Robertson, on Saturday evening, August 14th. when a number of young people were entertained to dinner. For the occasion the. guest of honour wore a pretty frock of turquoise blue crepon, trimmed with orange {lowers. Mr B. Clark ably carried out the duties of chairman, and after the usual toasts were honoured Mr Clark presented the guest with a golden key. Mi W. ' Olds responded on behalf of Miss 1 Robertson. At the conclusion of the dinner the visitors spent a happy time at games and music until 8.30 p.m., when they all adjourned to the Bannockburn Hall, where Miss , Robertson treated her visitors to the local dance.
