After , some showers on Friday night the grounds were rather greasy in tho morning hut with an improvement in the weather they rapidly improved. The smooth running and the general success of the tournament reflected the greatest credit on the president, Mr W. A. Scaife and the secretary, Mr D. A.Cahill, and a willing band of helpers who assisted to conduct the affairs with the utmost celerity. All sections were well represented and from the time the first Bantam teams took the field until the final there was not a 'lull moment. There was a. largo attendance and the big crowd was treated to some sparkling football, and in all respects the public was well' catered for. Referees for the dav were;—Messrs F. Duggan, W. Campbell, 1 Millers Flat half-back, made some brilliant openings and twice got through , to Valley's full-back before being stopped. A goal from a mark by W. The A grade fixtures, unfortunately, were marred by two accidents, D. Elder (Cromwell), breaking a collarbone in the match with Ida Valley A, and G- Barber (Ida Valley), sustaining a broken leg in the final match.

OTAGO'METROPOLITAN TEAM V VINCENT.

The Otago Metropolitan team met Vincent aIT Cromwell on Tuesday last, the visitors being successful by 22 points to .1. The match was played under ideal conditions, the ground being in splendid order and a good, last game was witnessed by a large attendance. Although the score reads as if Vincent suffered a convincing defeat there was not the difference rn 'tho teams that the points indicate. As a matter of fact a considerable doubt existed as to infringements which preceded two of the visitors tries In view of the fact that Vincent had some difficulty in tilling the back positions and that many of the players had not had a game for some weeks’the local team acquitted itself quite creditably. The Vincent forwards played a great game and. strange as il may seem, had easily the best of the game territorially. In this department Hamilton, Homer. and Davis led a hard-working pack in splendid stylo, the former being easily the best forward on the ground. The backs, although unused to each others play, endeavoured to open up the game Vail were overshadowed by their

speedy opponents. P. Davis did gieat work behind the serum, whilst Caskie. a hard man to stop, made some determined runs. The visitors pack was ably led by Aitken, Tyrie, and Beadle, while the backs, who took some time to settle down, when opportunity offered, staged some good movements which, in the second spell were particularly dangerous Tor Vincent. The visitors had some speedy backs, well suited by the dry ground, and of these Steele, a fleet-footed wing, gave the crowd a taste of his quality when ho flashed info action fn scoring two tries. He was the best back on the ground and was well supported by Spiilane, Johnstone, and Wallace. Play was not of a high standard in the first half hut the visitors improved pi

[ the second spell and some g-ood j movements were witnessed although j play vas mainly confined to a hard ‘ forward struggle. ’ The gate takings realised the good I sum of j Qzz.
