OWAKA RAILWAY BALL.
The railway staff at Owaka, being considerably augmented by the temporary stay of a number oi' Department carpenters, painters and plumbers in Owaka, it was decided to hold a raili way ball. This function took place in the Territorial Hall on Wednesday night, and proved an auspicious opening to the 1914 dancing season. The hall was prettily decorated, the floor in splendid order, and a flood of good spirits flowing over all it was almost impossible not to enjoy oneself. The ball opened with a grand march, after which, to sweet and well-timed music by Messrs Perry (.piano) and Oheyne (violin), and "extras" by Miss C. Anderson, dancing was indulged in to the heart's content, about 50 couples being on the floor. Messrs Tyson and Ockwell were a happy choice as M's.C'.,and under them there was not a dragging moment or the least confusion. The supper supplied by Mis Ford was all that could be desired. During the night songs were sung by Mrs Murrav and Messrs Murray and Gustafson. All who were fortunate to be present at the ball congratulate the railway men on the splendid turnout, and hope that it will be only the forerunner of many another railway function.
