DISTRICT REQUIREMENTS.

I PUBLIC WORKS INSPECTION. [ Hon. \V. Fraser finding it impossible to spare the time for a run through the Oatlins district, as arranged with Mr Malcolm, has sent Mj Furkert, chief inspecting engineer, on a tour through the district instead. Mr Furkert, accompanied by Mr Malcolm, has been spending a few days in the southern portion of the Clutha electorate, and to-dav the party will visit Oatlins. They we're to come through from Ohaslauds' to Puketiro last night. To-day will be spent in inspecting the Oatlins Valley and other Oatlins roads, and, if possible, the party will afterwards go across to Nugget Bay and inspect the fishermen's landing,' reaching Balclutha by the riverside road, which, with the proposed embankment, will be inspected. Next week Mr Furkert will visit the Collins railway works with a view to ascertaining the probable date of the opening of the line to Papatowai.
