LAWN TENNIS.

BALCLUTHA v. GORE. The Gore Club visited the Balclutha Club on Wednesday, and gave the local team their biggest defeat of the season, winning by 32 games. The weather was perfect, and the afternoon passed off pleasantly, a large number of visitors attending to witness the games. In the Men's Singles Bulelutha led -12—30, four men winning their games. Of course, the event of the day was the single between Bunten (Clutha's lirst man) and l)u Cms, the Gore champion. Victory rested with the former 9—6, after an excellent exhibition, in which the main features were liunten's serving and volleying from mid-court and Du Cros' line back-hand drives. In the Men's Doubles Gore won the three games, and won the four in the combined. This was where the visiting team got their big lead, their combination excelling Balclutha's. The local ladies lost the Singles by 7 games and their Doubles by 3 games.

Men's Doubles—Bunten and Malcolm beaten by l)u Cross and McAra 7—9, Shaw and Landels beaten by Mitchell and Laing 2—9, Fleming and Stewart beaten bv McKay and Quin 3—9 ; totals, 12—27. Combined Doubles—Bunten and Miss JTutehins beaten by Du Cros and Mrs McAra I—6, Malcolm and Miss McDonald beaten by McAra and Mrs Bowler o—6, Shaw and Miss Guest beaten by Mitchell and Miss Malloch 5—G, Landels and Miss Waymouth beaten by Laing and Miss McKay 5-6; totals, 11-24. Ladies' Singles-Miss Hutchins beaten by Mrs McAra o—6, Miss McDonald beat Mrs Bowler 6—4, Miss Guest beaten by Miss Malloch o—6, Miss Waymouth beat Miss McKay 6—3; totals, 12-1.9. Ladies' Doubles Misses Huitchins and McDonald beaten by Mrs McAra and Mrs Bowler 2—6, Misses Guest and Waymouth beat Miss Malloch and Miss McKay 6-5 ; totals 8-11.
