FRIDAY JULY 6. In the House, of Representatives — Mr Hutchison brought up the report of the Joint House Committee",'- t&.the effect that the sale of liquors be permitted at Bellamy's for this session only,, arid 'that Bellamy's •be under the control of the joint committee. Hon. R. J. Seddon said that as this was a matter of some -importance he should move that the report should be considered on Tuesday next. — Agreed to. Replying to questions ministers said it was feared time would not -permit of the introduction of an" amended Counties Bill or of dealing with charitable aid this session. A bill would be brought down, however, which would place subsidies to local' bodies on a better footing than at present.— Applications for bonuses for improved machinery for flax dressing would be open till the 31st August, and the conditions would be advertised in the Gazette. The greater part of the afternoon and evening sittings was taken up over the appointment of Colonel Fraser as Sergeant-at-Arms, a report of which will be found elsewhere.
