KAITANGATA BOROUGH COUNCIL.

*. A meeting of the above council was held on Wednesday evening, 6th inst. There were present — the Mayor (Mr W. M. Shore;, and Messrs Bailey, Wilson, Ken, Hitchon, and Kirby, J. Howie applied for leave to take gravel from Salcombe street to fill up a hole on his section as he intended to build. — Referred to inspector. Messrs Caird and Ogilvie asked permission to open a drain across the road at Clyde terrace in order to lay pipes from their fiaxmill.: — Bequest granted. John Shore asked to be allowed to remove earth from Stuart street to improve his section. — Granted. The Stuart Memorial Committee wrote enclosing subscription list, etc. — Beeeived. A letter from the Bruce County Gouncil re punt was laid before the council asking what

proportion the council would pay towards a new punt. Also- from same asking permission to place a sledge hut on the. bank near the punt for use of puntman. — Mr Kenmoved — " That consideration of the first letter be deferred until next meeting." — Seconded by Mr Wilson and carried. — Mr Wilson moved — " That permission to erect the hut be granted, subject to no liability being undertaken by the council." — Seconded by Mr Kivby and carried, Mr Kerr raised the question of registering the Masonic Hall, as it was being used for entertainments, meetings, etc., and should be licensed. He moved that the proprietors be notified to that effect.— Seconded by Mr Kirby and carried. Mr Kerr moved — " That all persons having houses on the street lines be requested to have the same removed within two months. — Seconded by Mr Bailey and agreed to. Mr Kerr moved — " That a signalman be appointed to attend the crossing, and that the Kaitangata Company be asked to provide same."-^Seconded by Mr Kirby and agreed to. Accounts as follow were passed for payment on Mr Wilson's motion : — Wm. Bradley, L74s ; J. T6dd, Ll2 5s 4d; W.Hewitt, L 2 10s ; W. Carson, LI 15s ; J. Borthwick, L44 17s, Charitable Aid Board, Ll2 17s ; Hospital Board, L 6 6s. The following tenders for contract No. 93 were considered : — T. Carson, LlB 6s ; T. Hislop, Ll2 10s; B. Carson, Ll3 10s; E. Allen, Ll2 15s ; Geo. Dunne, Llo,— The last was accepted. Mr Bailey drew attention to the fact that outsiders were using the gravel-pit. — Referred to inspector. ' A general rate of Id in the £ was struck on the motion of Mr Wilson, seconded by Mr Kerr. Mr Wilson moved — " That the inspector prepare the estimate of cost of formation and footpath in Christchurch street." — Seconded by Mr Bailey am 7 agreed to. The meeting then closed. A meeting of the cemetery committee was held, the business being to fix an upset price for cemetery sections. The meeting was adjourned till next evening on Mr Kerr's motion, and each member was to come prepared. A meeting of the Domain Board was then held, and received a deputation from the local band, consisting of Dr Fitzgerald and Messrs Spiers and Henry, who wished to get a site in the lower reserve to erect a rotunda or pavilion and to solicit the Domain Board's | support. : Mr Kerr said he was of opinion the object was a worthy one, and he would heartily support it.' The Mayor suggested that the council should prepare plans for a rotunda for the next meeting, and that the question he deferred till then, and Mr Bailey moved and Mr Kirby seconded a motion to that effect, the cost not to exceed L 3 3s. — Carried. Dr Fitzgerald thanked the board for their kind reception and their support, and apologised for not having given notice that they intended waiting on them. The deputation then withdrew.
