BALCLUTHA BOROUGH COUNCIL.

« The monthly meeting of the above council was held on Tuesday evening. There were present — The Mayor, (Mr J. M'Corley) Messrs P. Bell, J. Wilkins, J. •Bremner, S. Wright, G. W. Hutchius, D. T. Fleming, P. Mason and J. W. Wilson. The Secretary Otago Education Board wrote stating the board were not the owners of section at corner of Drumclog and Lanark streets in respect of which an account for asphalting Drumclog street was owing, and that he would make enquiries about reserve in Balclutha North. — The clerk said that the Otago School commissioners were the proper authorities in connection with the former and that he had sent the account to them. Mrs Ayson wrote applying for the position of weighbridgde keeper on same terms as formerly. — The Mayor said this was the only applicant. — Appointed accordingly. The Mayor laid on the table a subscription list in connection with the memorial of the lato Dr Stuart, and expressed his willingness to exert himself in the matter and hoped the members of the council would also lend their support. — After some discussion as to the form the memorial should take the matter was left in the hands of tho Mayor. The following accounts were passed for payment :— W. Wilson, L 4 14s 2d ; .T. Or. Bently, 9s ; D. Ileddie, L7 9s 6d ; G. P. Mitchell, L2 2s 6d ; M. Hundle, LO 2s 6d ; J. Allan, lighting account, L2 15 ; J. Finn, lighting account, 17 kerosene lamps 1 month at 4s, L3 8s ; Gas Company, 10 lamps equal to 2 months, LI 19s 6d ; Gas Company, Council Chambers and Library, LI 18s 6d. An account from Mr B. Grigor for engineering work in connection with the gas mains was passed for payment, the amount to be deducted from the Gas Company's account. The Hospital Board forwarded a memo, of contribution to be paid by the council for the current year L2l 0s 6d ; as also did the United Districts Charitable Aid Board, L43 2s. The amounts were both passed for payment to be paid every two months as previously. I The action of the mayor in employing Mr T. Bishop to clear the lower reserve of rabbits at a cost of L 2 was approved of. On the motion of Mr Wilson, seconded by, Mr Mason, it was agreed that the council pa/ the Town Clerk's fidelity bond premium.
