LOVELLS FLAT CONGREGATICNAL SOIREE.

The; congregational soiree in connection with the Loyells Flat Presbyterian Church was held on Tuesday evening. The weather was all that could be desired, as was indeed everything pertaining to the ■• gathering. The little church was filled with people, and this, with a very good programme, made a pleasant evening a matter of course. Tea and cake, dispensed from four tables, and supplied by three ladies of the congregation and the bachelors, and supplemented by a liberal | supply of the famous Lovells Flat apples made thq first part of the proceedings enjoyable. | Tea over the chair was taken by Mr Gilbert, | the missionary in charge, who called upon the treasurer, Mr Dunlop, to give in the [ report from the deacons' court. From all sources the revenue for the year amounted to a trifle over LlOO, of which Mr Gilbert received LB6, the remainder being required for incidental expenses. The Chairman in his address said that he had now completed 14 years' service in Lovell's Flat as missionary. His strength was not what it had been, but he thought he had still more work in him. He had very kindly to thank Messrs Thomson and M'Caw, and especially MiAdam for willing help rendered, when on several occasions he had been -unable for his Sunday duties. Thereafter addresses were delivered by Eevs, Currie and Fairma-i'd and Mr Adam (Bon Accord). The latter in a very interesting and humorous manner took his audience with him through the first part of his recent trip to the Home Country, giving many and varied reminiscences of Sydney, Adelaide, Colombo, Aden, Port Said, Italy, and of life on board ship. * During the evening a strong choir rendered the following pieces in a manner that reflected the greatest credit on the members, and especially upon their leader : — " Prepare ye the way of the Lord," "Feed My lambs," " Our missing treasures," " Seeking the lost," " Calvary," " Home light home." Miss Dunlop presided at the organ. The meeting was brought to a close by the usual votes of thanks being passed to the ladies and the bachelors who had provided the eatables, to the choir, to the speakers, and to the chairman.
