TAHATIKA.
("from our own CORRESPONDENT.] A sacred concert and soiree was held in the schoolhouse on Friday evening last, 18th inst. in aid of the organ fund. The attendance was* not as large as might have been expected, still there were a fairly good audience present. The Eev. W.' G. M'Laren presided. The programme which contained anthems, quartettes, duets, and solos, as will as pianoforte selections, was carried out in a very creditable
I manner to the performers. The part songs, some of which were of considerable difficulty, ' were particularly well rendered. The voices j were well balanced, rendered well, aud due I attention was paid to light arid shade. Much credit is due to Miss Flam ,nk (the conductor) who had the class tl o ou^hly in hand, and who must have had experiense in work of this kind before. The following is the programme gone , through : — Anthem, choir, " Hear the trumpet loudly calling;" pianoforte solo, Miss E. Duncan, " The old hundred," with variations ; . vocal duet, Misses Catherwood and Flamank, " Jesus full of tender., mercies ;" song, Miss Allen, "Low at Thy feet;" reading, Mr A. Bradfield. jun., " Sir Balaam;" vocal duet, Messrs Wilson and M'Latchie, " Palaski's banner ;" song, Miss Flamank, '• Thy King ;" quintette, Misses Allen, Flamank," Catherwood, and Messrs Wilson and M'Kinnon, •' Lead me Saviour. A capital tea which had been provided was then handed round, and to which everyone appeared to do ample justice. After the eatables had been disposed of a start was made with the remaining part of the programme. Proceedings were begun by the choir singing the anthem " Christ is risen," followed by a -vocal duet by the Misses Duncan, " Beautiful . home ;" song, Miss Catherwood, "Hope;" reading, Rev. W. G. M'Laren, " Death of little' Nell;" pianoforte solo, Miss E. Duncan, " Kyrie Gleison :" duet, Yocal, Miss Flamank and Mr Wilson, "I need the Lord;" recitation, Miss Ethel Flamank ; anthem, choir, " Stand up for Jesus." After the usual votes of thanks to the pro formers, those who provided the eatables, and chair, the concert was concluded by the choir singing •' Onward Christian soldiers." The Misses Flamank and E. Duncan aoted as accompanists to the singers in their usual efficient manner.
