CLUTHA RIVER BOARD.

i A meeting of the Clutba River Board was ! held in the Borough Council Chambers here on Tuesday last. There' 1 were psesent — Messrs Dallas (chairman)/ Smith, Michael, Rutherford, Hay, Mitchell,:: M'Oorley, and Williams. • 1 : The Chairman, on belialf of the works committee, reported that "the committee had accepted the tender of Mr James Young for the erection of a goods shed at Bongahere L6B 15s Gd, and also for the erection . of a shad at j Manuka Island Estate LGO 17s 6d, on condij tion that a road was provided to the site and 1 dedicated to the public. I The action of the committee was conis firmed. ji- Mr Williams mentioned that he had I authorised some extras to the Bongahere shed, / and reported that a small platform 'was required at that shed. — Extras and platform agreed to. x , I Mr John Miller wrote- that, the proposed ■ shed at Manuka Island Estate (at Mr Pillaus' ; jetty) would not be of mucli benefit to any of . the new settlers, and that it'snould be erected ;at a more central site. " - ■ .- ■ The Chairman referred to the'matter of the groin at the head of Inch Clutha, which it was anticipated would cost L3QQ or so, but which had cost upwards of L 700,. without reckoning, the services of the steamer carrying stonej etc,, which would bring the total up to about LIOOO. The Inch Clutha : Biver and Boad Board had agreed to pay Ijl2o towards the cost in two instalments of 1160, the first to be paid on the oompletlon of the groin. The groin had been completed as it was intended to be when it was commenced,, and 1 the Inch Clutha board had been asked f or ; payment, but had not repled t| The river bank was now washing away above the gvoin, bm) it was no part of the duty of that board' to' protect it. The clerk had written to Mi' (*• Anderson, the owner of the adjoining ground, asking him to come to that meeting to confer regarding the matter, but ho reply had* been received, and Mr Anderson had not come to the meeting.
