KAITANGATA BOROUGH COUNCIL.

Tho ordinary monthly meeting of the borough council was held on Wednesday evening. There were present —Messrs W. M." Shore (mayor), J. Muir, W. Wilson, H. Kirby, H. S. Hitch on, and S. Bailey. *

J. A. AJgie wrote requesting permission to attach .1 letter-box io thu lamppost at the intersection of Eddystone and Branksea streets — Granted.

R. Johnston requested that P. Welsh's name be inserted on burgess roll as owner of Eec. 18. blork IV. — Granted.

W. Reid wrote stating he had a 1G manual -power fire-engine and hose for sale. — Received.

The "United Charitable Aid Board requested a return of the rateable value of all rateable property within the borough. ■ — The clerk was instructed to prepare same.

J. Palmer wrote accepting the council's offer of 73 Qd per yard for tht; supply of 200 yds of metal at Stirling. —Received.

A deputation, consisting of Messrs W H. Mackenzie, F. M'Govern, Or Fitzgerald, and P. Sprightly, waited upon the council, and requested that they (the council) would take the necessary steps to procure more adequate accommodation at the telegraph office ; also that the council would take immediate steps to secure for the borough a fair representation upon the Clutha .River Boards. — After disdiscussion it was unanimously agreed to at once give effect to the wishes of the deputation.

Mr Muir moved— " That the clerk write to the managers of the Kaitangata and Cnstlo Hill Coal Companies requesting them to give an estimate of the cost for the lighting of the borough by electricity from their respective dynamos."— seconded by Mr Bailey and carried.

MrMnir moved—" That Water street, from the traffic bridge to Torquay street, be metalled to a. " width of '20ft." —

Seconded by Mr Kirby and carried

Mr Muir moved — " That two inches of the best white gravel he put on the foofcpnth on Clyde terrace." — Seconded by Mr Wilson and carried.

The clerk was instructed to call tenders for the lease of Pound Reserve for a term of seven years.

Accounts amounting to L 23 7s 8d were passed for payment. The meeting then closed.
