INCH CLUTHA RIVER AND ROAD BOARD.

Tho usual monthly meeting of the above board was held on Thursday evening last week. There were presentMessrs Rutherford (chairman), Anderson, Smith, and M'Douald.

Mr Adam Bell wrote drawing the board's attention^ to the condition of the flood-bank on Kis property. During the late rise in the river the water waa" running over in several places, and would require to be raised from lft to lft 6in.— After discussion, it was resolved that the levels of the flood-bank be taken and raised on an average of lft. MrE. J. Boyd wrote calling the board's attention to the Very inconvenient state of the road at his gate.— Mr Anderson moved—" That an approach be made to the gate to give Mr Boyd an entrance." — Seconded by Mr Smith and carried.

A letter was read from the secretary to the school commissioners, Dunedin, stating that the commissioners had consented to the cutting of a drain through sections 9, 10, 11, and 12, block 11, Inch Clutha. — Received.

Mr Jas. Allen, M.H.R., wrote enclosing River Board Acts. — The clerk was instructed to write and thank Mr Allen for his trouble:

The Chairman reported that Mr Jamea Bell had drawn his attention to a portion of the river-bank fronting his property, Koau branch, which was scouring out very much. Mr Bell suggested the placing of bales of flax tow over the bank secured with steel wire rope. — It was resolved that the matter be held over in the meantime.

Mr Smith reported that a number of pipes were left over from the drainage contract on road near his place, aiid asked the board's permission to U3e part of balance for culvert that crosses road near his house. — Granted.

With reference to the drain at the lower portion of the island the clerk Btated that he had not received the plana of the drain from Mr Grigor. — The Chairman said as the season for draining was now getting well advanced he would suggest that the clerk be instructed to dra*w out specifications for the drain independent of the plans. The drain was 92 chains in length, and a fall of ]Bin could be allowed. — Agreed to. The clerk was also instructed to have the timber for the culvert laid on the ground as soon as possible.

The following accounts were passed for payment :— James Parker, repairs to flood banks, L74s ; Robert Byers, repairs to flood banks, L73s ; B. j. Allison, contract ditching, Lll 11s 6d.

This was all the business and the meeting closed.
