STONEY CREEK.

[prom our own correspondent.]

Tlie Hillend entertainment is still attracting fair audiences, and on Friday night last a very agreeable evening was spent. In consequence of the unsettled state of the weather, muddy roads, and countre-attractions, the ladies wero fewer than was desirable, but those who were present heartily enjoyed themselves, and did not grudge a little exertion in order to overcome difficulties. Miss Marshall and Mr Houliston opened with " Hunting Tower," which was well sung. Mr Christie read "The Bashful Man ;" Mr Houliston followed with "Oh, sing again, &c," and Miss Marshall gave another in her usual style. A recitation by Miss Lottie Bower, preceded by some songs given by strangers, who would do well to be more choice in their selections to do justice to their talent. The thanks of the company are due to Mr G. Houliston, who performs on the violin with great efficiency. During an interval in the dancing Mr Stevens sung a parody on " Rule Britannia," wliich was productive of much merriment. No doubt before next evening the roads will be better and a more encouraging attendance of ladies is expected. " Wbat signifies tlie life of man If 'twerna' for the lasses," and the life of the Hillend entertainment has always been due to the exertions of the fair sex in the district.
