Interest in Goals progress
The progress with Going for Goals in Christchurch had attracted a lot of interest from other cities and other countries, the Goals chairman told a packed public meeting on Friday evening.
Mr Allan Shadwell said Rotorua, Dunedin, Napier and Hastings had expressed enthusiasm about the idea.
He said Memphis, from where the Going for Goals idea came, had decide'd to adopt New Zealand for its yearly festival, and Christchurch planned to play a leading part in it.
Another week-end forum is planned for next June, which would attract public interest in the Going for Goals effort, he said.
Chairmen of the various groups reported to the meeting about progress for the promotion of jobs and schemes. Recent efforts included a "lazy letter” promotion inviting others to come to Christchurch, job creation in the retail sector for 15 high school leavers and unemployed, and promotion of cycling in the city.
The primary resources committee, which has proposed a Primary Industries Development company, has formed a group which will investigate farming promotion and production in the region.
