Retirement income
Sir,—l was aghast in mortal funk at the glossy guaranteed retirement income brochure disclosing the alarming state of four
workers to one pensioner. Allowing for the unemployed, the position must be more apprehensive. In 40 years this progressive condition is to be .a spine-chilling two to one! An estimate is that one tractor driver can feed 500. Thousands of male and female pensioners use drivers’ licences and robots make tractors nonstop. So, who is restructuring whom? The glare of “The Age of Wisdom” could yet come upon us and make redundant the dwindling few endangered species in the gloom. — Yours, etc.,
