Iwi head by Oct. 1?
The State Services Commission hopes to names a chief executive for the Iwi Transition Agency by October 1. A commission spokesman refused to say why the appointment was taking so long. The agency, with a staff of about 500, will take over from the Department of Maori Affairs on October 1. It will prepare Iwi authorities to do the work of the department then disband after five years. Some staff will come from the department. — PA.
