Music study awards
Seven of New Zealand’s most promising young musicians have been awarded $lOOO New Zealand Post music study awards. The musicians are all members of this year’s New Zealand Post National Youth Orchestra which met recently for tuition and performance at Napier and Palmerston North under a visiting Scottish conductor, James Loughran. The award winners are Katherine Hebley, aged 21 (cello), and Elizabeth Hirst, 19 (flute), of Auckland; Robyn Cormack, 22 (cello), Anna Debenam, 23 (viola), Kim Wilkinson, 21 (classical trumpet) of Wellington; and James Bush, 17 (cello) and Matthew Ross, 19 (violin) of Christchurch. —PA.
