Fire service most trusted

PA Wellington New Zealanders trust the Fire Service more than any other institution or professional group, according to the results of a Heylen Research Centre poll. The July poll, which monitored trust and confidence in New Zealand society, rated the Fire Service as the most trusted group, with 74 per cent support. It was the first time the Fire Service had rated in the survey. The second-most trusted group, the police force, rated 46 per cent support in the survey, the lowest level recorded by this group. The national survey showed the confidence in the next-, highest rating groups, the medical and armed services professions, continued to decline. Trade unions and Parliament also did not fare very well with respondents rating only 8 and 6 per cent respectively. The survey showed New Zealanders’ trust in the education system, financial institutions and the media remain unchanged at 12 per cent, 11 per cent and 10 per cent respectively. One thousand adults were polled in the survey, which asked respondents to rate 14 organisations on a rating scale between “full trust and confidence” and “No trust or confidence at all.”
