Cottage scheme will be extended
PA Wellington The Government will extend the "granny flat” scheme to make relocatable cottages available to single parent, overcrowded or extended families. The granny flat scheme, administered by the Housing Corporation, gave older and disabled people the chance to rent a small home which could be located on or near the existing home of family or friends.
The Minister of Housing, Mr Hunt announced yesterday that the introduction of the Relocatable Cottage Programme would open cottage tenancies to a wider range of people with support and housing needs. Mr Hunt said people who rented relocatable cottages would pay affordable rents based on their income. The Housing Corporation paid for the cottage, installed and maintained it (Jh the client’s site.
