Bavadra in N.Z.
The deposed Fiji Prime Minister, Dr Timoci Bavadra, is in New Zealand for medical treatment, a spokesman for the ousted leader said. State-owned Radio Fiji reported that Dr Bavadra, who had two months of hospitalisation and convalescence in Auckland from February this year, reportedly for a back problem, was in a wheelchair before departure from Nandi Airport. However, a spokesman said Dr Bavadra, aged 53, who was toppled by the Fiji Army in the first of two coups in 1987, had left the country for a “checkup.” He is accompanied by his wife, Adi Kuini. —NZPAAAP.
