Barclays Bank PLC - one of the world’s strongest and most profitable banks - became a Registered Bank in New Zealand at the end of last year. Since the beginning of this year the Bank has been conducting all its new corporate banking business through the New Zealand branches of Barclays Bank PLC. The transfer of its banking business from the subsidiary company, Barclays Bank New Zealand Limited, to the branch structure is now essentially complete. World’s Highest Credit Rating Barclay’s Bank PLC is rated “Triple A” by both international credit rating agencies, Standard & Poor’s and Moody’s Investors Service Barclays Chief Executive in New Zealand, Mr Graeme Hansen, said, “No other bank in New Zealand has the highest possible (AAA/Aaa) credit rating of its long term debt from both international agencies”. Barclays is one of the world’s leading banking groups. At 31 December 1988, total assets were £lO4 billion (NZ$277 billion) and capital resources were £8.3 billion (NZ$22 billion).
