Waikato Area Health The reform of the public system has to formation of the Waikato Area Health Board. In addition to the former Waikato Hospital Board (excluding Rotorua Hospital) the new Board encompasses the Health Development Unit and from October 1989 will include the Thames Hospital Board. The new Board will .be one of the largest ones in New Zealand with approximately 6,000 staff and a budget of $250 million. The General Manager will be responsible to the Board for the effective and economical management of the Board including its statutory obligations. Particular emphasis will be placed on integration of the various constituents of the Board, the continued upgrading of services in an environment of cost containment and the enhancement of the public health system in the region. The person sought will have a proven record of managerial excellence at the highest level, preferably in the health sector. The capacity to lead a highly complex, multi-disciplinary organisation and to manage change is essential. Remuneration will be in line with positions of similar size and responsibility.
