Asthma and Maoris
Professor Eru Pomare will head an investigation on asthma among Maoris. The Minister of Maori Affairs, Mr Wetere, said yesterday Professor Pomare, who is head of gastroenterology at Otago University and professor of medicine at Wellington School of Medicine, would establish terms of reference and appoint members of the team. Mr Wetere called for the review earlier this year after talks with the Asthma Foundation about the prevalence of the respiratory disease. Professor Pomare has published extensively on the topics of Maori health, nutrition and gastroenterology.—PA.
