Bottle of milk 60c from July 1
Milk will cost more throughout Canterbury from Saturday. The price of a 600 ml bottle will rise 5c to 60c and one litre cartons will go up 10c to $1.20. Two litre plastic bottles will rise 20c to $2.40. Increases had been forced by increased production costs and the new 12 y 2 per cent GST taking effect from July 1, said the chief executive of Canterbury Dairy Farmers, Ltd, Mr Barry Hogan, yesterday. “It’s something we are reluctant to do, but with the increased production costs and the new GST rate, we are unable to absorb them,” Mr Hogan said.
“We’ve still got the cheapest milk in the country.”
Cream in 300 ml cartons and bottles will increase from $1 to $1.20.
