Lotto payouts ‘no worry’
PA Wellington The marketing manager for Lotto, Mr Phil Prosser, says he has no worries about cash - security for instant payouts up to $lOOO from agencies. A Division 3 prizewinner questioned security at a Wellington agency after she was handed $563 over the counter, by a woman in sole charge. Mr Prosser said agencies decided for themselves how much float to have on hand, but it was no more than other retailers would have. "It is nothing out of the ordinary.” Mr Prosser said an agency would expect only one Division 3 payout each draw.
Agencies did , arrange pick-ups of money on Saturdays, the biggest sales day for Lotto tickets, as part of their contracts. On February 12, the director of Nationwide Investigations and Security Group, Mr Terry Mortenson, questioned security at outlets, after burglaries at two Wellington agencies.
A spokesman for Police National Headquarters had discussed cash security at outlets with the New Zealand Lotteries Commission.
