$6000 raised for heart equipment
“The Press” Park-to-Park fun run and fair, organised by the Christchurch South Rotary Club, has raised $6OOO towards the purchase of a defibrillator for the Order of St John.
Two Heartstart defibrillators, each valued at $13,000, are needed by the ambulance service for on-site assessment of heart-related conditions and resuscitation attempts. The regional chief ambulance officer, Mr Bernie Chatterton, said the equipment would en-
able St John staff to assess and help people with life-threatening heart conditions faster and more effectively.
The president of the Christchurch South Rotary Club, Mr Garth Street, said he hoped the club’s efforts would spur other groups and individuals to contribute towards the $13,000 target so that St John could buy at least one defibrillator.
The proceeds from the fun run are the first contribution towards the purchase.
