Otago keeps shield
PA Dunedin Otago retained the Winfield Challenge Soccer Shield by beating South Canterbury, 3-0 in atrocious conditions at the Caledonian Ground in Dunedin yesterday. The snow clad pitch at first appeared reasonable, but soon betrayed players as several slushy pools emerged in which the ball either stopped dead, or skudded along even faster than before. It was a day to play your football at the opposition’s end, pressuring errors, and as the last line of defence, Otago’s keeper David Cunningham and South Canterbury’s Stu Walker both had excellent matches.
