Evernden struggles
New Zealand’s top male tennis player, Kelly Evernden, had to come from behind to win his first-round match at. the Bristol Trophy grass court tournament yesterday. Evernden eventually overcame a young Venezuelan, Nicholas Pereira, 3-6, 7-5, 6-4. Pereira, last year’s world No.l junior with the French, Wimbledon and United States Open titles under his belt, beat Stefan Edberg last week. Evernden faces Dan Goldie (U.S.) in the first round at Wimbledon next week.
