Labour policies
Sir, —Whatever happened to consensus? Mr Stan Rodger calls for the resignation of Jenny Morel from the board of the Rural Bank, offering no evidence but mentioning a vague personality clash. Laws were changed to remove Rob Campbell from the board of the Bank of New Zealand. Dr Bassett denies us a referendum on amalgamation then threatens to change the law if protesting councils win litigation. These councils have overwhelming support from the public, who have no faith in the monolithic machinery being foisted upon us. It all looks increasingly like a new type of dictatorship. We now see why Mr Palmer changed procedures allowing right of appeal to the Governor-General, as representing the Crown. This country badly needs an Upper House to put the brakes on random law changes to support Government policies for which it has received no mandate from the electorate. — Yours, etc., W. W. WRIGHT.
