Blackaller hits snag
PA Auckland American skipper Tom Blackaller yesterday accidentally struck the committee boat’s bow in a prelude to the Citizen Watch yacht match-racing series. Competing in 10m Stewart 34 keelboats, Blackaller was crossing the line for third in the final race when an anchor rope got caught up between his keel and rudder. Blackaller. forced to watch team-mates cross first and fourth against New Zealand’s trio, retired and was towed off. The New Zealand team of Chris Dickson, father Roy and Olympic gold medallist Russell Coutts, al! crossed the line safely to record their second win and earn over-all honours. In the first race, New Zealand beat the Rest of the World and the United States defeated Australia. The second race was cancelled because of lack of wind. In the third, New Zealand won again and the Rest beat Australia with a second, third and fourth placing.
