Juniors share series win
Templeton’s Tim Butt, and West Melton’s Gary Gilpin, were inaugural joint-winners of the Canterbury Junior Drivers’ Series Finals after the second final was decided at the Addington trials yesterday. Both reinsmen gained maximum points in the two finals when successful behind the same horse, News Of Fame, which gained his second penaltyfree win in a fortnight yesterday driven by Butt. Butt took the halfbrother to World Of Fame to the front with 1600 m to run and he held out a determined finish from Nina Marie (G. Goodwin) by half a length. Solitude (Shane Enright) ran on well for third, a head in front of Chip Adios (Brent Borcockie), one of the tailenders at the 600 m, and Phillip Eugene (David Earnshaw). Points were awarded to
the first five placegetters in each final, with Earnshaw, fourth-equal in the two races the only reinsman to score twice. Butt and Gilpin share a $2OO clothing voucher for sharing the title, while the first three placegetters in each final were awarded trophies.
