Armed hunt Two masked men armed with a firearm and a knife entered an Addington house early yesterday in an unsuccessful hunt for one of its occupants. Detective Senior-Sergeant Mike Muddiman said the pair entered through the back door between 1.30 a.m. and 2.30 a.m., disturbing the four occupants. The man sought was not there. They spoke to the occupants before leaving. “The person they were wanting to see arrived after they had left.” The offenders were Maori and wore jeans. They had mutton cloths over their heads. One was aged 26 or 27, about 170 cm (sft 7in) tall, of thin build with black hair. He wore a black T shirt. The other was aged 25 to 30, about 180 cm (6ft) tall, of solid build with short black hair. The van’s two headlights were shattered by the hurled bottles. The dog patrol went to the area about 12.20 a.m. after a report of a smash-and-grab burgalry at the tavern. A car believed to have been involved was seen near the intersection of Greers Road and Sawyers Arms Road. A chase developed through to Cavendish Road and on to Greers Road, where the car stopped near Jellie Park Aqualand. One occupant was arrested at the car. Another fled and refused to stop. Constable Geoff Bryant released a police dog which caught the man after a 100 m chase. The man has been admitted to Christchurch Hospital with thigh injuries. District Court charged with burglary and endangering transport Obscene gestures A report of a man loitering near Avonside Girls’ High School making obscene gestures to passing pupils is being investigated by the Christchurch police. The man has been seen several times. Man in uniform A man, aged 29, was ordered from the grounds of Shirley Boys’ High School on Thursday after being found in school uniform. The man was identified and the matter reported to the police.
