Candidates for the Canterbury Freyberg Masters golf team have their last chance of qualifying for the five-man team to contest the national tournament when they compete in the Spalding Masters event at Shirley this week-end. A new selection format will determine this year’s team for the New Zealand Freyberg Masters (over 40 years) tournament at Hamilton from April 11 to 16.Players have had three tournaments involving eight rounds — the Templeton Summer open, the Canterbury stroke championship and. tomorrow’s event — to achieve the minimum, number of counting

rounds (six).' Those who have played all eight rounds are able to delete their two worst scores in presenting their best sixround aggregate. The five players with the lowest gross aggregates, will form the Canterbury team. The present leader, with scores adjusted, to include the best four rounds, is the Central Canterbury. representative, Bob Hill. He-holds a two-stroke lead oyer the former Canterbury Freyberg Rose Bowl player, Bob Bradley.
