RESIDENT MEDICAL OFFICER CHATHAM ISLANDS Vacancy No. 4/81M The Canterbury Hospital Board Invites applications from suitably qualified and experienced Registered Medical Practitioners for the position of Resident Medical Officer, Chatham Islands. The Chatham Islands are 500 miles (800 km east of Christchurch and have a population of about 750. The Resident Medical Officer is the sole practitioner on the Islands. There is a well equipped four bed hospital maintained by the Board. A modem fully furnished, three bedroom house Is provided adjacent to the hospital. The Resident Medical Officer holds regular clinics in the surgery attached to the hospital and branch surgeries are held occasionally on nearby Pitt Island. This position offers a unqlue opportunity to practise integrated family medicine in a small community with the facilities of a cottage hospital. The Canterbury Hospital Board provides support services. There Is a scheduled air service to the Chatham Islands from Christchurch and Wellington. Patients requiring base hospital treatment can be transferred to the mainland either by a scheduled or a special emergency flight.
