Tony Iro seals win
PA London
New Zealand’s Tony Iro sealed Wigan’s John Player Special Trophy final berth with a try 10 minutes from time against Bradford Northern at the week-end. Wigan showed better pace and more discipline to win 16-5 at Central Park, earning a place in the final against Widnes at Bolton on January 7. The big Kiwi prop, Adrian Shelford — now playing some of his best football for Wigan — was an early casualty in the match and left the field with an apparent rib injury after about 10 minutes. His international team-mate, Kevin Iro, completed the New Zealand contribution to Graham Lowe’s champion side. The captain, Dean Bell, is still serving out a six-match suspension for a high tackle in a match against Salford a month ago.
