Stalwart tops
Thelma May, who won six senior and veteran titles at the 1988 New Zealand table tennis championships, in Auckland in September, has been named as the Canterbury table tennis player of the year. May, who has been a stalwart of Canterbury representative table tennis for many years, and gained a Q.S.M. in the 1987 Queen’s Birthday honours list, is playing better than ever. In continuing her service to the sport she is helping organise the world deaf games, to be held in Christchurch in January. The junior player of the year was awarded to Lisa Astle, who continues to improve and is showing promise.
Kevin Duffy won the George Hart Trophy for the most interclub wins in A grade and Crawford Liddell won the Harry Sargent Memorial Trophy for the most wins in A reserve games.
