O’Sullivan shares lead
NZPA-Reuter Tokyo The top New Zealand jockey, Lance O’Sullivan, and Japan’s Katsumi Minai shared the lead after the opening two races of the World Super Jockey Series on Saturday. Minai, this season’s top rider in the West Japan Racing Association, romped to victory in the six-and-a-half-furlong first event on Japanese-bred Bambton Rich while
O’Sullivan, steered Ise Yuho to triumph in the longer second race.
The series, which is being contested by four Japanese and eight foreign riders, including the veteran, Willie Shoemaker, and the defending champion, Cash Asmussen, of the United States, the Briton Ray Cochrane, and Ireland’s Pat Eddery, was to finish with two more races last night.
