Queensland spun out
NZPA-AAP Mackay The Pakistan off-spinner, Tauseef Ahmed, showed why he will pose a threat on the tour of Australia and New Zealand during the 37 run win over Queensland in the one-day match yesterday. Tauseef collected three for 27 from his 10 overs as he mesmerised the Queensland middle-order.
The Pakistan skipper, Imran Khan, looked in good form and took two for 38 from nine overs. After Imran won the toss and elected to bat, Pakistan made eight for 229 in its shortened innings of 45 overs. But in reply Queensland could make only nine for 192. Queensland may have received a bigger beating were it not for the captain, Greg Ritchie, who returned to form with an aggressive 66. But he did not have the support from his batting partners and when he left with the score at seven for 174, Pakistan had the match in its keeping. It was sweet revenge for the tourists following Saturday’s narrow four run defeat to Queensland. Yesterday’s loss was the first of the season for the Maroons, who are leading the Sheffield Shield competition with South Australia.
